Juanita Hope Sumrell known to her family & friends as ‘Nita baby’ left her earthly home for her heavenly home on April 1, 2025.
Juanita was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on July 18, 1956 , The daughter of the late John Henry & Mary Bell Sumrell.
She is survived by two sons- Danny Sumrell (Antenette) and Devonta Clover Sumrell (Gabrielle) ; One brother- Van Sumrell ; and one sister- Sheila Sumrell.
Juanita moved to CT at the age of 3 where she attended public schools including Troop middle school and Wilbur Cross high school graduating in the class of 1975. Some of her jobs were at a daycare at the YMCA, Marshalls, Mayes, Highview manor, burger king and her longest tenure was at Pratt & Whitney, where she met her long time companion Danny Clover Jackson.
Juanita is preceded by two brothers John Sumrell and James Sumrell. She also has 6 grand children (Loyaltie, Laniya, Sincere, Larry, Isaiah & Quentin Sumrell) ; 1 Godson (Toby Sumrell) ; 4 Nephews ( James JR, Joey, Phillip and Josh Sumrell) ; 2 Nieces (Stephanie Chung & Vida Sumrell) ; 6 Sister in laws (Barbara, Glennece, Maxine, Monica, Nettie & Katura Sumrell) ; 4 honary Sisters (Lila Lewis, Deitra Reid,Fredia Cobbs & Joy Herring) ; And 1 honery daughter Shonda Patterson.
A celebration of Juanita’s life will be held on Thursday April 17, 2025 at 11am Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT. Viewing in Colonial from 10-11am. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
