Karen J. Matthews

Karen J. Matthews, age 65, of Waterbury passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2023 surrounded by her family at Saint Mary’s hospital after a long illness. Karen was born on May 25, 1958 in Waterbury. She was the daughter of Earl C. Matthews. Matthews Marie A. (Wise) Matthews. Although divorced from Leland K. McIver Sr., she spent more than 40 years as his devoted partner up until his passing one and a half years ago. Before settling down to raise a family, she enjoyed being a CNA. Karen was the kind of woman who never like to sit still, and was always up for a good time. Whether she was enjoying a ride in the country, stopping at flea markets, or hosting, festive, holiday gatherings. She was always the life of the party. She was at her, happiest when she was surrounded by her ever growing family. Those gatherings will never be quite the same without her infectious laughter and boisterous personality. When not hosting a party Karen could be found singing karaoke and dancing the night away, or even enjoying one of her varieties interest, including baking, crafting, and shopping.

Left to cherish her memory her children, Marie Aponte of Shelton, Thomas Cable, Jr., (Jacklen) of Waterbury, Amber McIver of Waterbury, Leland MacIver of Waterbury, Matthew MacIver (Kim) of Torrington. Her brothers Bruce Matthews of Upton, NY and Kevin Matthews of Prospect. Also thirteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren and three grand fur babies. She was predeceased by her brother Kenneth Matthews of Prospect and her sister Donna Matthews of Naugatuck.
