Keith Butler passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025 at Yale. He leaves to cherish his memory wife Darlene Abraham-Butler. Keith Martin Butler, born on February 15, 1956, in New Haven, CT, was the beloved son of Lee and Lottie Butler.
Keith was a shining light in the lives of of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was the one marked by wisdom and courage. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to help others. Keith devoted his life to serving others, whether it was on the Maryland police Department or his position as president of the local union 1222 at UNH where he worked for 20 years.
Keith had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, his memory was uncanny. He had a willingness to share history and lessons with others. With honesty and integrity because he had strong values. In his early years, he played softball on Hamden Little League team, and later on for Hamden high, where he began pitching and received a scholarship to attend Morgan State University head of his fraternity Omega Phi Omega, Keith demonstrated leadership without compromising principal. Keith was a praying, man. He would occasionally attend Saint Matthews, where his mother worships. A diehard Steelers fan, was his passion. He attended tailgates, parties with pizza were his favorite. He will truly be missed by all those who knew him.
Predeceased death by his grandparents, Lee and Lottie Butler, his mother, Shirley Coleman, and his aunt and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Butler, his son, Shawn Butler, brother, Kevin, Martin of New Haven, faithful and devoted, brother, his sisters, Denise Martin of Georgia, Tony, Nixon of New Haven. His grandchildren, Jalen, Skyy, and Simone Butler. His nephews, Byron Nixon, Javon Martin, Darcel Reddick, father of Skylar Reddick. His nieces, Tamika Martin of Clarksville TN, Alishia Freeman (Cornelius) of Lawrenceville GA, Jasmine Martin, and a host of other family and friends.
A celebration of Keith’s life will be held on Friday February 21, 2025 at 12pm at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden CT 06514. Viewing in Colonial from 11-12pm. Burial to follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park Cemetery, Hamden, CT. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
