Laura Mae Cook Mason

Laura Mae Cook Mason w as born May 31, 1930 in Greenville, A L. to Clarence and Hattie Crenshaw Cook. Laura was the 1 st born of five girls to this union. God called her home as s he peacefully departed this life on March 08, 2022 , after living 91 blessed years.

Laura accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and nurtured in God’s Holy word at Indian Hill AME Zion Church in Greenville, AL. The family later moved to Brewton, A L . where she joined Zion Fountain AME Zion Church and served as a faithful member .

Laura later relocated and made her new home in New Haven, Connecticut. She joined Varick Memorial AME Zion Church where she was a consecrated Deaconess and a devoted member . She loved her church family and served faithfully until she succumbed to fail ing health . Her career work was a s a dedicated employee at American Linen where she worked for many years and later retired.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings ; Isola Cook Gant, Annie Jewel Boyd Peagler , James Boyd, Oliver Boyd, Herbert Boyd, Winford Cook, Roy Cook and Bertha Cook Hunt.

She leaves to cherish wonderful loving memories to her devoted son Dennis Cook , her dedicated nephew and caregiver Ray Gant , her sisters ; Cora Cheatham (Brewton , AL) , Carrie Crenshaw (New Haven, CT) and Hattie McConnico (Brewton, AL) , and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family would like to especially thank Shirley Bell for all the support she gave Laura and the family in this time of need.

A celebration of Laura’s life will be held on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 11am at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden. Viewing in Colonial from 10-11am. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
