Lawrence Lorenzo Ferguson, affectionately known as “Lo,” passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 3:00 AM at Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. He was 79 years old.
Born on September 17, 1945, in Hoke County, North Carolina, Lorenzo was the beloved son of the late Reverend Neil A. Ferguson and Earlean David Ferguson. He was raised in Red Springs, North Carolina, and graduated from Peterson High School with the Class of 1964.
As a teenager, Lorenzo began working alongside his father at Royal Jewelers in Red Springs, where he was trained as a watch repairman. Even in his youth, Lorenzo demonstrated a strong work ethic, sharp mind, and the beginnings of an entrepreneurial spirit that would define much of his life.
Lorenzo was a visionary and a charismatic presence—his engaging Smile and infectious sense of humor could light up any room. A natural leader and devoted mentor, he guided many with his wisdom and compassion. To his family, he was known as the brother who embraced the unexpected and was never afraid to take the road less traveled.
After relocating to Brooklyn, New York, Lorenzo joined his cousins in owning and operating a Mister Softee ice cream business. Later, he moved to Connecticut and worked at Smith & Wesson Gun Manufacturing Company. True to his entrepreneurial nature, Lorenzo and his wife went on to establish D & L Trucking Company, continuing his legacy of determination and hard work.
A celebration of Lawrence’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 11am at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT. Viewing in Colonial from 10-11am. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, CT. Condolences ma be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
