Sunday May 19, 2024, Leo James Sr. went to sleep in death, after gradual decline in health.  He was born December 19, 1928 in Cogdale, Georgia to the late Mamie Tompkins and Christopher Columbus James.

On April 9, 1950 he married Henrietta Jenkins.  Their union produced four children, Leo Jr., Judy, Gregory, and Lamont.

During the great migration or black people leaving the south, he came to Connecticut.  He was hired in 1951by Olin (Winchester)- Repeating Arms, retiring after thirty years.  He owned a business called Leo James and Sons Janitorial and Landscaping Services.  His hobbies included fishing, collecting guns, and repairing and collecting clocks. He loved spending quality time with family.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Henrietta of sixty-seven years, daughter Judy James, son Lamont (Misty), one granddaughter Danielle James and eight siblings.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Leo Jr., Gregory (Carole) of New Haven, beloved son in law, Norrise Jones and daughter in law Delore James-Rivera. Fifteen grandchildren, thirty great grand and nine great great grandchildren.  Along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

There will be a memorial service held on June 15, 2024 at 2 pm at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden CT 06514.  A Repast will be at the family home. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
