Leon Henry Brooks

A LIFE WELL LIVED

Leon Henry Brooks was born in New Haven CT on March 10, 1951.  He is the 6 th child of 10 to be born to Anna K. Brooks-DeBose.  He attended Hillhouse High School and continued his education at Chaney College in Penn. He had a special interest in music and enjoyed playing the saxophone which sparked his Love of Jazz music.

Leon was known and Loved by a host of family and friends. All who have known him for his love of Foreign and Sports cars, his style of dressing for any occasion, his sense of humor and his bright smile. His favorite pass times were eating well, sipping on good wine, listening to Jazz and engaging in worldly conversations with his female friends.

Leon enjoyed working and serving in his community. He worked many years for the VA Hospital, State of Ct. DSS and Aces.

He leaves to mourn his absence 3 brothers Phillip Brooks Sr., David DuBose and Ralphael Dubose all of New Haven, 2 sisters Annette DuBose of New Haven Ct. and Fatima DuBose -Nelson of Gastonia NC.  He was predeceased by his mother Anna K. Brooks-DuBose, brothers Joseph DuBose, Jerry DuBose, Melvin DuBose and sister Patricia DuBose-Thorpe who passed one day after him. They are together forever.

Family was very important to Leon. He Loved all of his family and stayed in touch with them on a regular basic. But as in most families there is always one or more that touches one’s heart strings. One person for Leon was his cousin Denise Brooks-Kelly who he affectionally referred to as “The little girl” because of her short height. She was his sounding board anytime of the day and the night.  Another person was his niece Mia DuBose Franklin who took care of business. Straight and to the point and compassionately stuck by him to the end. He will be sorely missed by all.

His Soul is now resting in peace.

A celebration of Leon’s life will be held on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at 11am at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT. Viewing in Colonial from 10-11am. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
