Leon Jay Johnson

Leon Jay Johnson passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Saturday November 25 th , 2023.  Leon was married to EddieMae Johnson for 60 years.   He was born August 10 th , 1940, in Baltimore, MD.  He was the son of the late David Johnson Sr, and Bertha Prince Johnson.

Leon graduated from Crosby High School and upon graduation he enlisted into the A rmed F orces serving in the Army until he was honorably discharged, at which time he entered the Automotive Industry and worked in that field for over 40 years.  If anyone had a question about cars, Leon was the one to call . He loved helping any and everyone.   After his retirement from the automotive industry , he went on to work as a driver , transporting children to school at various locations throughout the state . He always had something pleasant to say about everyone he came in contact with.

Leon was loved by all who knew him, and if you asked anything of him, he never said “no” , it was always “I will be right there” . He served as a bonus Father to many. He loved his New York Giants, and he made sure to arrange his schedule according to when they would be playing.  He enjoyed watching the New York Mets baseball team, as well as the UCONN men and women’s basketball teams . Leon also had a passion for bowling, in which h e served in several leagues in Wolcott as well as Waterbury, CT. Throughout his bowling career, The United States Bowling Congress recog nized and awarded Leon rings for achieving two perfect games. Golf ing was also a passion for Leon.  He served in the Long Drivers’ League for many years, and was ready to play whenever he could, until he was no longer able to. In addition , he also enjoyed hunting and visiting the shooting range with his brother Charles .

While at home, you knew where to find Leon, he was always in the cellar or the garage “tinkering” on anything that he could find. If he was not “tinkering” he is watching his favorite Western shows.

Besides his loving and devoted wife, EddieMae, he leaves to cherish his memory, his son Corey (Stephanie) Johnson of West Virg inia, his daughter Terri L. Johnson, Waterbury, CT., One Grandson Kyle D. Johnson, and two great grandchildren, Madalynn and Robert of West Virgin i a. A b rother Charles (Mary) Johnson , Prospect CT. T hree Sister in laws, Annie (Ghee) Owens, Waterbury . CT., Shirley P. Robinson , New Haven, CT.  Mary (Rudolph) Win dsor , Chester PA. Two Brother in Laws, Edward Robinson Jr, Milwaukee, WI and Bernard Holmes , Oakville, CT.

T wo bonus dau ghters , Lisa Clark, of Indianapolis Indiana, and Mar cia Knight , two bonus sons Keith and Kevin Clark Waterbury , CT, and the Craig children, Torrington, CT, in addition to a host of nieces, nephews , extended family, and friends.

He is predeceased in death , by a Brother David Johnson Jr. and a Sister Margaret Holmes and Brother-in-law James Owens.

Special heartfelt thanks to Leon Knight and Luis Santiago who both w ere there for Leo n tirelessly during his time of need.   May God’s blessings be with you all.

A celebration of Leon’s life will be held on Friday December 8, 2023 at Zion Baptist Church at 11am. Viewing in Church from 10-11am. Funeral services are entrusted to Colonial Funerals, 270 West Main Street, Waterbury and James R. Sanders, Funeral Director. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
