Celebration of Lomon “L.M.” Evans Life
December 26, 1932 – September 30, 2025
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:8
Lomon Evans Jr., affectionately known as “L.M.,” was born on Monday, December 26, 1932, in North Carolina to the late Lomon Evans Sr. and Hattie McDonald-Evans. He was one of several beloved siblings, including Bobby G. Evans (Joyce), Mary N. Evans-Gaddy (Charles), Gladys McKoy, and Mamie Sneed. He was preceded in death by his sisters Hattie M. Gray and Martha “Perlene” Evans-Tearry and a brother.
L.M. later moved to Connecticut with his first wife, where together they raised a family of seven children: Deborah Evans (Ricky), Kerry Evans (Alicia), Darryl Evans (Krista), Beverly Hammie (Eddie), and Barry Evans (Joyce). He now joins his late sons Anthony “Tony” Evans (Connie) and Adrian “Stevie” Evans in eternal rest.
He later married his second wife, Geraldine Hardy -Denby, and together they welcomed a daughter, Shannel Evans. Through this marriage, L.M. also gained two bonus children, Jason and Nikia Ritter. His legacy continues through a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Though he left school after the fourth grade, L.M. was a man of great determination and work ethic. He built a successful career through hard work and perseverance, retiring from the general contracting company Blakeslee.
Over 35 years ago, L.M. joined New Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Gore. He remained faithful in service under Pastor Maria Gore’s leadership. He joyfully sang in the choir alongside his dear, late good friend Bro. Morant. Later, the choir came under the direction of another close friend, Deacon Simpson.
L.M. was a strong man—both mentally and physically—handsome, caring, and deeply devoted to God. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, neighbor and friend, but most of all, a humble and loving human being. He will be remembered for his passion for classic cars, westerns, word search puzzles, great spirit, and his ever-present cup of decaf coffee.
Although L.M. will be missed beyond measure, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He would want us to remember the love he gave, the support he offered, the wisdom he shared, and the laughter he brought into our lives. Above all, he would remind us to take care of our backs and to always keep God first.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
— Matthew 25:23
