Lucille “Aunt Ceal” Sewell, age 92, of Waterbury, entered into eternal life on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital in the company of her immediate family. She was born on May 20, 1928, in New Haven, the daughter of the late Lucius and Maggie Walker. She was the beloved sister of Catherine Darby of New Jersey, Gladys Gordon of Waterbury, Helen Olive of North Carolina, June Lewis of Cheshire, and Shirley Pitts of Waterbury. She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews: Beverly Gordon, Michael Lewis, Tanya (Anthony) Barrett, Crystal Lewis, Kevin Lewis, Theodore Pitts, Paul Pitts, Naomi Pitts, LaShaya Gatling, Peter Walker, Clarence “C.J.” Walker Gatling Jr., Chelsea Barrett, Talyah Lewis, Mikaeel Lewis, as well as a host of cousins, relatives, and friends. She was predeceased by brothers Fred Hollis, Herschel Gaines, and Donald Kobina; sister Mildred Gatling; brother-in-law Tilman Riley Lewis and nephew Clarence Walker Gatling Sr.

She retired from the New York Telephone Company after 23 years of service.  She spent 40 years living in Brooklyn, NY before returning to Connecticut after retirement. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading, painting, writing poetry, and volunteering.

Sister Ceal was a longtime member and greeter at Living Faith Christian Church while participating in the “Silver Lining Group”. She was also a member at The Mt. Olive Senior Center and The Mount Olive A.M.E. Zion Senior Citizens Inc. where she taught art classes.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020, at Living Faith Christian Church, 69 Prospect Rd. Waterbury at 10 am. Public viewing from 10-11 am followed by a private service for family and invited friends from 11-12 pm. Burial will be held at New Pine Grove Cemetery. All COVID guidelines will be followed and enforced. Please wear a mask and respect social distancing. Funeral Services entrusted to Colonial Funerals, 270 West Main Street, Waterbury, with James R. Sanders as Funeral Director. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Faith Christian Church ministries. Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com
