Luther Moore 70 years old was a caring Husband, Father, Grandfather, son, Brother and Friend. Luther passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2022, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born June 11, 1951, in Greenlyville SC to parents Walter Thomas Moore and Odell Patterson- Moore. He was raised in Kingstree South Carolina with his sibling 7 brothers and 2 Sisters until he came to New Haven Ct in 1969. Luther is proceeded by his parents Walter Thomas Moore, and Odell Paterson – Moore, Brothers David Leroy Moore, Ray Charles Moore, James Lee Moore, John Wille Moore, Curtis Moore & Nathaniel Moore.
He Leaves behind his Wife of 42 years Wendy Moore of New Haven, Children James Hobby, granddaughter Nichelle Hobby of New Haven, Crystal (Tommy) McMichael, granddaughter Zoe McMichael of Bridgeport, Marcus Moore of New Haven as well as Siblings Daniel Moore of New Haven, Virginia Moore of New Haven, and Elizabeth Moore of New Haven as well as a host of grandchildren, niece’s nephews and friends.
In 1969 Luther began his career at Yale New Haven Hospital working in the emergency department in the environmental service role. He worked 41 years before retiring and had touched the hearts of many. After his traditional 9-5 he would work as a building super intendant. Luther best known for his smile, happy disposition, strong work ethics and the songs he sang or whistled while he worked. He enjoyed playing the acoustic guitar, singing, darts, checkers, fishing, watching sports, karate and westerns. Luther loved his siblings he enjoyed laughing talking about old times and going to the flea market with them. Luther loved his wife and children and consistently made sure they had a roof over there heads, food to at and clothes on there backs.
Luther also known as (Roly Poly) was known for his hard work and dedication to his family, career, pigeon-toed walk, side part in his hair, blue jeans -white t shirt and his garden. In his later years after retirement, he enjoyed relaxing watching television eating his favorite foods and watching his favorite television shows while drinking coffee. Luther was a great cook his dishes were South Carolina inspired he loved. He loved to listen and sing his favorite songs which includes artist James Brown, Archie Bell and the Drells (tighten UP), Chain Gang, Temptations, Smokie Robinson and many more. He not only loved to sing but he loved to dance and imitate the moves of James brown, he shocked and amazed others with his James brown split imitation as well as martial arts moves from his favorite kung fu actor Bruce lee.
To hear his laugh made you smile, to know him was an honor, to watch him work was inspiring. Luther lived his life without complaints and will leave a legacy for the next generation that shows the value of doing all you can because you can.
