Malaki Caraballo, affectionately known as Melo, 18, of New Haven, CT, entered eternal rest far too soon. A bright light to all who knew him, Malaki was known for his infectious smile, contagious laughter, kind heart, and ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved.
Stephanie Hernandez and Nasir Morris, who Malaki meant the world to, were amazing mother who loved him more than words can express. She would have done anything for him, and every single day was dedicated to making sure he was happy, safe, had a home-cooked meal, and deeply loved. Malaki was the world to his mom and brother. Raymond Morris, who was his devoted father figure since birth. Malaki grew into a respectful, compassionate, and determined young man. Through years of guidance, love, and unwavering support.
A junior at New Haven Academy, Malaki was admired for his kindness, positive attitude, and sense of humor. He was excited for his senior prom, looking forward to wearing his Cartiers, and had recently learned he had been offered a basketball coaching job-news that heartbreakingly arrived on the day he passed.
Basketball was Malaki's greatest passion. As a proud player for Hillhouse High School, he dedicated countless hours to improving his game and was inspired by Michael Jordan's relentless work ethic. Off the court, he was a true ladies' man with a kind heart who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Malaki also had a passion for fashion. His favorite colors were red and black, and he took pride in wearing the latest Jordans with every outfit perfectly matched. Known as the life of the party, he filled every room with laughter, dancing, and unforgettable memories.
Above all, Malaki treasured his family, especially his mother and brother always making time to check on them with love, encouragement, and support.
He leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Stephanie Hernandez and Luis Caraballo; his stepmother, Helen Caraballo; his father figure, Raymond Morris, his beloved brother, Nasir Morris; his siblings, Jason, Ethan, Noah, Isabella, and Lucas Caraballo; his loving aunts, Angie Melendez (Luis Rosado), Yomaira Oyola (Angel Oyola), Johana Cartagena, and Shatoya Morris; his uncle, Raul Hernandez; his grandmothers, Felita Hernandez, Yinoris Caraballo, and Tracy Morris Stuttles; his grandfather, Wesley Suttles; his mentors, Ernie Cloman and Chris "BoPro" Murrell; and a host of cousins, relatives, friends, teammates, classmates, and loved ones.
Malaki was preceded in death by his beloved grandfathers, Raul Hernandez and Raymond Wallace.
Though his time on earth was far too short, Malaki's love, laughter, and beautiful spirit will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Malaki's life will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 11am at Trinity Temple Church 285 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT. Viewing in Church from 9am-11am. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
