Mamie Grinnan known to some family and friends as (“Big Mamie, Mema, or Me-mo”) 80, of New Haven, CT., Passed away on Monday November 29, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born on August 24, 1941 in Clover, Virginia to the late Oliver Coleman SR. and Lottie Susie Coleman.

Mamie met and married Willie Grinnan they were married for over 50 years. That’s where the name “Big Mamie” came from. Mamie loved to cook and have everyone gather at her house for Sunday dinners. It didn’t matter if you were family or not, if you graced her doorstep, and she had food you best believe she told you “Go wash your hands and I’ll fix you a plate.” Mamie was the sweetest, kindest, little lady you would ever want to meet. Her love for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all her extended family was shown daily. Whether it was a phone call to ask “what are you doing, cooking, or just to hear your voice. Mamie was the Mother, Grandmother, Auntie and friend that never judged you it was always pure love. That’s why she will truly be missed!!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Grinnan, Daughter, Carlotta Grinnan, Sisters, Josephine Harris, Ida Bell Cannon, Annie Coleman and Pinkey Foster, Brothers, Walter Coleman, Tony King, Oliver R. Coleman Jr, Bennie W. Coleman, and Ernest F. Coleman. Also, two Great Grand Children Riley Faith Hudson, and Mason David Hudson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her Son David Hudson, and Daughter Gloria Grinnan of New Haven, CT. Grandchildren, David Hudson Jr of South Carolina, Bobby Blue Jr (Tinisha), Takqia Staggers, Oliver Smith, Willie Smith, Daquon Hudson, Davon Hudson, Danajhe Hudson all of New Haven, CT. Shanikqua Blue, and Dashawn Hudson both of Hamden, CT. She also leaves behind two Sisters Louise Morton of White Plains, New York, and Quitana King (Colonious) of Mount Airy, North Carolina. Two Sister in law’s, Tanya Coleman, and Georgia Ann Coleman both of Hamden, CT. She also leaves behind 9 Great Grand Children, A special aunt Lucy Robertson of Clover, Virginia., and one God Daughter Nicole Osagie, “Coochie Momma” (Rene) of Jacksonville, Florida. A Host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of Mamie’s life will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11am at Saint Matthew’s Church. Viewing in church 9:00-11am. Internment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
