Marian Lee Samuel Sr (79) departed this life in Hamden, CT on the 15th of February 2024. Marian was born on September 5, 1944 in Elgin, SC to Thomas Samuel and Minnie Portee. He attended schooling in Elgin, SC where he met the love of his lifetime Eloise Samuel. They both graduated and became one on June 3, 1965 where they then moved to New Haven, CT. Out of their union they raised one son, Marion Lee Samuel Jr, and two daughters, Susanne Samuel and Loretta Samuel.
His work career consisted of Olin/Winchester Arms, Gannett Outdoor a billboard company where he was the head foreman and St. Raphael Hospital. He retired from Gannett Outdoor after working 20+ years and then he got a job working part-time at St. Raphael Hospital where he worked over 7+ years and then officially retired. He was a very kind and hardworking man and always made sure that he provided for his family. He would make sure that there were snacks for the grandchildren when they would come over. They did not leave the house without a snack bag and he would make sure of that. Those that knew him knew he LOVED to eat. He was a homebody meaning he didn’t go anywhere too much, he loved staying home. He would go to his appointments, bring his wife to appointments when needed and he eventually started going to the grocery store by himself (remember he LOVED to eat). He also loved watching football, church programs with his wife, wrestling and westerns. He was a New England Patriots fan. He impacted the lives of many and his legacy will forever be on the hearts and minds of those he touched.
Marian leaves to cherish his memories his beautiful wife Eloise Samuel of 58 years, son Marion Lee Samuel Jr (Marquita), daughters Susanne Samuel and Loretta Blount (James), granddaughters Jasmine Tiffany Evans and Jade Aaliyah Ormond, grandsons, Maurice Lamar Samuel, James Louis Douglas Jr and Jalon Aaron Samuel and step grandchildren Kendrea Bridges (Beloved) and Zy’ren Patterson, great grandchildren, Tyrese Markies Cloud Jr and Aay’ din Charles Dunston. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones to cherish his life.
He is predeceased by his father Thomas Samuel Sr, his mother Minnie Portee, brother Thomas Samuel Jr, cousin Walter Cantey, sister-in-law Stephanie Storr and brother-in-law Willie Edwards.
Marian was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Marian’s life will be held on Friday March 1, 2024 at Wayfaring Ministries at 11am. Viewing in Church from 10-11am. Interment to follow at Hamden Plains Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
