Mario D'Occhio

Mario D’Occhio, age 86, of Waterbury, CT passed away peacefully at home Monday, December 5 ^th , 2023. He was the son of Salvatore and Angelina (Perugini) D’Occhio. He was born January 6 ^th , 1937, and raised in Pontelandolfo, Italy. Mario’s dream to come to America was achieved on January 6 ^th , 1953. He soon met the love of his life Mary Jane Verzino in 1957 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church feast, where they eventually married, and have been happily married for 66 years. Mario went on to achieve many of his goals such as owning his own construction companies, a carwash, and a cattle ranch back in his homeland. Mario was very dedicated and involved in establishing what the Pontelandolfo community club is today. Mario’s many joys of life included boxing, becoming a pilot, hunting, gardening, playing goalie for the Pontelandolfo community soccer club, and spending time with friends and family.

Mario D’Occhio is survived by his wife Mary Jane (Verzino) D’Occhio, his children Gina D’Occhio Grant, Marc D’Occhio, Dione D’Occhio and his wife Mary (Manna) D’Occhio, Eric D’Occhio, Steve D’Occhio and his fiancé Tracy Cavallo, and his sister Maria (D’Occhio) Pesce and her husband Louie Pesce. Mario was predeceased by his grandson Matthew Ryan Tooth and leaves behind his grandchildren Amber (D’Occhio) Mosel, Kristi D’Occhio, Eric D’Occhio Jr., Jace Grant, Anya Grant, Dionna D’Occhio, Joshua Grant, Mario D’Occhio. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours for Mario D’Occhio will be held on Monday December 11 ^th , from 5pm to 8pm at Colonial Discount Funerals, 270 West Main Street, Waterbury CT, 06702. Members of the Pontelandolfo community club will be attending at 6:30pm for a special prayer. The following day Tuesday December 12 ^th at 10am Mass will be held at Our Lady Mount Carmel Church, 785 Highland Avenue, Waterbury CT, 06708.
