Mrs. Mary Alice Eggleston, 80, of Wolcott, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on April 10, 2026, after a long illness.
Mary was born on January 1, 1946, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Eddie Mae Moss-Brinson and late Adam Brinson. She was educated in the Montgomery school system and graduated from Carver High School in 1965. After graduation, she relocated to Waterbury, Connecticut, where she met the love of her life, James Purnell Eggleston. They were united in marriage in August 1976 and shared 50 devoted years together.
Mary dedicated 26 years of service to SNET as an information operator. Following her retirement, she continued her passion for helping others by working in the Communications Department at Waterbury Hospital for an additional 10 years and then retired.
Mary found great joy in spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and granddaughter. She loved cooking and baking, often sharing new recipes with loved ones. She also enjoyed gardening, watching her favorite television shows and online programs, and playing games on her phone, including Candy Crush and color-by-numbers.
She was known for her kind heart, warm spirit, and the love and compassion she showed to everyone she met. Mary was a strong and persistent presence in her family, always encouraging her children and granddaughter to strive for greatness. She placed a high value on education and often expressed pride in their accomplishments, sharing their successes with a bright smile.
Mary will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, caring sister, and cherished aunt. Her laughter, radiant smile, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband James Purnell Eggleston of Wolcott Connecticut, daughter, Breia Eggleston of Wolcott, Connecticut; her son, Brandon Walker of Wolcott, Connecticut; her granddaughter, Enasia Eggleston of Wolcott Connecticut; her sister, Eloise (George) Hamilton of Waterbury, Connecticut; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mary had a special love for children and cherished her time with her nieces and nephews, whom she treated as her own.
Mary was predeceased by her brothers, James Mayfield Sr. and Murray Brinson.
