Mary Helen Martin

Mary Helen Martin was born on November 19, 1940, in Camden, South Carolina, to Ned Carter and Priscilla English-Carter. Mary peacefully entered eternal rest on June 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was known for her kind heart and enjoyed cooking, fishing, bowling, and caring for others throughout her many years as a dedicated caregiver. Her strength, unwavering faith, and compassion made her an extraordinary matriarch who was deeply loved by her family and cherished throughout her community.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory children Tommy Martin, Timothy Martin, Stephanie Martin, Decatur Martin, and Nate Martin. Grandchildren:

Dennis McFadden, Timia Martin, Shayla Martin-Tran, Sasha Martin, Alexes Martin, Jonazia McKinney, and Nia Martin. Great-Grandchildren:

Jayvion McFadden, Genesis Tran, Dynasty Susu Lawrence. Siblings Richard Carter, Annette Carter, Geneva Carter Rutledge, Margurite Atkins, Jerry Atkins, Louise Carter, and Carol Sapp Carter.

She was preceded in death by Ned Carter (Father), Priscilla English-Carter (Mother), Decatur Martin (Husband), Julia Carter Ballard (Sister), Wilhelmina Sue Carter (Sister), Naomi Carter (Sister), Ailene Carter (Sister), James Carter (Brother), Joe Carter (Brother), and Tyrell Martin.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 12pm at Trinity Temple Church 285 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT. Viewing in Church from 11am-12pm. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, CT. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com
