On February 11th, 2025 Mary N. Owens peacefully fell asleep in death in hospice care at Ark Healthcare and Rehab Branford Hills. Born on December 13th, 1938 in Hawkinsville, Georgia to the late Charlie Newberry and Pearl Ross Newberry. She was the oldest child of 13 children. Mary was very close to her family and often kept in contact quite often over the phone with relatives in long distance. She graduated from the 12th grade from the Houston County Training School. She was a factory worker and later retired from Standard Tool & Dye. Mary loved peanut-brittle as her favorite snack and enjoyed her own peach cobbler. She enjoyed sewing in her younger years and adored visiting Atlantic City in New Jersey with her daughter, Robbin. She often watched action and romance movies, and viewed non-fiction T.V. programs. Her favorite singer was Luther Vandross. She leaves to cherish her memory: William “Tommy” Owens (Husband) in Branford, CT. Also two children: her son Michael (and his wife Stephanie) Owens and daughter Robbin Owens. One granddaughter Robbin Danielle Benefield. Her siblings and their spouses are: Mildred (and Eugene) Kenny in North Branford, CT; Bernice (and Johnny) Edwards in Hamden, CT. Harold Stubbs in Hawkinsville, Georgia; Myrtle (and Aaron) Tookes in Lithonia, Georgia; Cedric (and Lily) Newberry in Cincinnati, Ohio: Julius “Warren” Newberry in Hawkinsville, Georgia; Jeffrey (and Janice) Newberry in Riverdale, Georgia; Marcus (and Florine) Newberry in Warner Robins, Georgia; Charlene (and Mark) Jones in Conyers, Georgia; Althea (and Chris) Brown in Schertz, Texas. Her two sisters who are predeceased are: Teresa (and Stacey) Brown and Iris Newberry. Along with a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

John 5 : 28, 29 –

“Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life.”

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden from 10am-11am. Funeral Service will start at 11am at Colonial. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
