Maxine a Watts born on May 15, 1935 of Waterbury CT, passed away on July 12, 2025 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. Maxine was the daughter of the late. Elisha J. Watts and Caroline C. Harvey (Watts). She has survived by her sister Beverly Watts, and nephew Judson Watts. She is predeceased by five of her siblings, sisters Valdoris Virginia Justice, Ledonia E. Gray and Jeanette A. Watts, two brothers Judson A. Watts Sr., and Harvey O Watts.
Maxine was involved in many things throughout the city of Waterbury. One of them being a part of her local neighborhood watch, Maxine served as a member of the NAACP for years becoming the president in the year 2002 for the Waterbury branch. Maxine was very Interested in African-American history. While being a part of the NAACP, with the assistance of her committee members, a huge discovering was made finding Mr. Fortune bones. A slave who died in 1798. Mr. Fortune was a slave of Dr. Porter a bone surgeon in Waterbury.
Maxine was also a well-known and respected dog breeder in the state of CT, Maxine bread, Dobermans, which started her own business naming it WAHS hell, producing quality Dobermans for over 35 years. Also having a companion dog and a championship bloodline. Maxine loved all kinds of animals. She also bred Shih Tzu briefly and even was a dog groomer on the side.
And Maxine’s later days she took a liking to the city of Waterbury’s senior center located on E. Main St., participating in many activities, such as the chorus, yoga and etc. Maxine enjoyed staying active. Maxine attended West Virginia, Virginia state college from the years 19 -1957. She was employed by CLNP Connecticut light and power and a lifetime member of Zion Baptist Church and worked diligently at the senior centers activities at the East Main Street Center.
A celebration of Maxine‘s life will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 11am at Zion Baptist Church, Waterbury, CT. Family will receive friends at the Church from 10-11am. Burial to follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury CT. Funeral services have been entrusted to Colonial Funerals 270 West Main Street, Waterbury CT and James, R. Sanders, Funeral Director.
