Melissa Dickerson McCoy

Melissa Dickerson McCoy, (also known as Popeye; Dollbaby) age 70, of New Haven, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025.

Melissa was born on December 1, 1955, in Nyack, New York, to the late Isaac and Alice (Kee) Dickerson. She was lovingly raised in New Haven, Connecticut, by her late aunt, Roberta (Dickerson), and uncle, John Williams.

Melissa was known for her kindness, her joyful spirit, her persistence to take care of everyone else before herself, and her love of dancing. She was deeply dedicated to her children and grandchildren and carried a lifelong passion for teaching. In her quiet moments, she enjoyed a good puzzle book, binge watching her judge shows, and treasured time spent with family and friends above all else.

She is survived by her four children: Anthony Merritt Jr., Antoine Merritt Sr. (Wife Tishon Merritt), Aaron Johnson Sr.(wife Courtney Johnson), and Stephanie Johnson (husband Derrick Barnes) which brings along Her 8 grandchildren: Antoine Merritt Jr., Anthony Merritt III, Tyeanna Hunter, Aaron Johnson Jr., Daymeer Merritt, Bonita Merritt, Jared Merritt, and Autumn Johnson. She also leaves to cherish her memory of her brother, Linford Dickerson; her sister, Virginia Moore; her maternal aunt, Mildred Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Melissa was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

A Celebration of Melissa's life will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Colonial Funeral Home in Hamden, Connecticut at 11am. Viewing in Colonial from 10am-11am. Burial will follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com.
