Michael Ulmer

With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Michael Julius “Mickey” Ulmer, born December 26, 1957, who departed this life on November 15, 2025. Mickey’s presence was unforgettable—bright, confident, and full of life. To know him was to know laughter, warmth, and a spirit that refused to be dimmed. 

Mickey graduated from Cross High School and later worked at Yale University, as well as in carpentry and other trades. He created and helped those around him. Whether he was fixing something, tackling a project, painting or lending a hand, Mickey took pride in doing things his way. 

Mickey is predeceased by Father Clarence S. Pittman (Elizabeth) and Mother Hattie Mae Pittman; sisters Gloria Jones, Geraldine Rucker; brother John Ulmer and nephew Darrell Jones. 

Mickey is survived by brothers Clarence Ulmer, James Pittman, Russell Pittman, sisters Cora Pittman, Kay Pittman; sons Michael Griffen, Lonnie Ulmer (Kelly), Jaykeen Ulmer (Sonda), Lamonte Ulmer (Jere), daughters Mikisha Relaford (Tyrese), Joy Ulmer-Wardlaw (Larry), Jasmine Parker. 

He was also blessed with 30 grand kids and 14 great grand kids with a host of nieces and nephews and family friends.

Mickey was the life of every room he walked into. He didn’t wait for the party to start—he was the party. If the music was playing, Mickey was dancing, even if no one else was. He moved through life in chill mode, self-assurance, and sometimes with a contagious energy. 

He loved to look sharp, and he carried himself with a style and cleanliness that everyone who knew him could smile about—some would tease that it bordered on a little OCD. But that was Mickey: intentional, confident in who he was, and never afraid to stand out.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we will carry Mickey’s laughter, his boldness, and his love with us always. His family and friends will forever remember the “Mick man” who dressed sharp, danced first, and lived loudly, proudly, and unapologetically himself. Gone from our sight, never from our hearts—Mickey’s spirit lives on in every memory, every smile, and every song that makes us want to get up and dance.

A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Monday, December 1st, 2025 at Colonial Funerals. 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden CT, 06514. Viewing will take place at 10:00 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
