Mitchell Cannon

Mitchell Cannon, the beloved son of the late Lennon and Valerie Cannon, was born in New Haven, Connecticut on September 5, 1956, and passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories with his wife, Debra Cannon; daughter, Acacia of Hamden, Connecticut; son, Mitchell Jr. (Shana); and three grandchildren, Mitchell III, Jeremiah, and Jamiah of Thomasville, North Carolina. He is also survived by his brother, Fredrick Cannon (Angela); mother-in-law, Regina Dease; godson, Amire; best man, Calvin Bacote; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church members. Mitchell was preceded in death by his eldest brother, Jerry Cannon.Mitchell graduated from Richard C. Lee High School and TCI Vocational Technical College, and further pursued his education at Gateway Community College, focusing on alcohol and drug prevention. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theology. In 1990, Mitchell embraced a life devoted to God, joining the NA fellowship. His dedication to sharing his experience, strength, and hope led him to volunteer in jails, hospitals, and various institutions. Mitchell was a committed employee at Sargent’s Manufacturing Company for over thirty years and served as a supervisor at Project MORE Halfway House. He had a passion for fishing, especially for porgies and sea bass, often sharing this pastime with friends, family, and co-workers. Beyond fishing, he devoted himself to helping the lost and found inspiration in Peter, one of the twelve apostles, whom he admired for his fisherman background and, according to Mitchell, his ability to "cuss."In 2004, Mitchell was ordained as a deacon and felt the call to preach the gospel in 2005, guided by Apostle Eunice Tucker. He participated actively in various church ministries, including the Trustee Board, Men’s Choir, Senior Choir, and Sunday School. His faith journey began in childhood at Sweet Hope Church alongside his parents under Pastor Lee Parker Sr. Mitchell later served as an elder at Sweet Hope Plain FWB Church, led by Pastor Lee Parker Jr.

Mitchell Cannon will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to community service, and the love he extended to all who knew him.

A celebration of Mitchell’s life will be held on Friday August 14, 2026 at 11am at Bethel AME Church, 200 Goffe Street, New Haven, CT. Viewing in Church from 10-11am. Burial to follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com
