Nancy Belinda Greene (Battle) daughter of the late Esau Andrew Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Greene departed this life Tuesday, November 17, 2020.Nancy was born March 7, 1964 in New Haven, Ct. She was a pioneer in school integration having received her early childhood education at Doolittle School in Cheshire, Ct. Nancy then returned to the New Haven Public School system where she attended East Rock Community School. She was not only admired for her many talents and beauty, but she was also a part of the performing arts theater. Nancy had a singing style that only she could possess. Nancy graduated “Most Talented” and with honors from Wilbur Cross High school. While participating in the Wilbur Cross gospel choir she was a featured soloist in the recording “Beams of Heaven”. A gifted vocalist and artistic performer, it was never surprising that Nancy always landed the lead soloist of both the gospel choir and musical productions under the direction of Dr. Regina Warner. She attended Educational Center for the Arts (ECA) a program for talented youth and Wesleyan University summer program for the gifted. Upon graduating high school, she attended a Historically Black College Talladega College in Alabama. Nancy also had the opportunity to sing back up for Dionne Warwick but Mama Greene said “NO”! With that being said, Nancy had many achievements to her credit. Nancy’s joy was most fulfilled while singing in her home church, The First Church of God, where she was a youth choir director and member for many years. Also, she served as the local secretary of the CWC organization from 2009-2013. In 2013 she assumed the role of president at First church of God. And in 2015 Nancy joined New Antioch Church of God under the pastoral leadership of her brother Reverend Esau Greene where she was the WCG. Deciding to travel south, Nancy was under watch care at Hood Memorial AME Zion Church under the pastoral leadership of Patania Eiland Shorter where she was ordained a Deaconess. One of the proudest days of her life! Nancy enjoyed cooking for her family and had a love for children shown by owning and operating her own daycare in North Carolina. She was full of life and loved to get on her sister and brother’s nerves. She was a happy spirited person who loved to crack jokes. She had a nickname for all of her siblings such as “Gram”, “Pig”, “Ole Blacky”, “Spoony”, “Scrawnigen”, and “Moosey”… (You figure it out!) Nancy was a nurturing soul she cared for her nieces and nephews, while loving them unconditionally but would quickly remind them that she would “knock their teeth out of their mouth” but would never do any harm to them. Nancy’s grandchildren were her pride and joy! She lived to see the smile on her granddaughter India’s face every morning as she would fuss her out and cook breakfast for her all at the same time. Her children Donald and Shinikia were her WORLD and the apple of her eye!
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories Donald Battle (Rebecca), Shinikia Battle (Tyron) all of New Haven, Ct, 7 grandchildren India, Denice, Ty’Lan, London, Mariah, Jayden, and Josiah. 1 sister Trina Greene (Billy Bostic), Keith Greene, Anthony Greene, Reverend Esau Greene (Tiffany), Markel Greene, and God Mother Addie Moore. Predeceased by her father Esau Greene Sr, her Mother Mary Elizabeth Greene and her brother Glenn Greene. Nancy also leaves behind to celebrate a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
