Nilsa Haydee Baez, beloved mother, grand mother, sister and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 19, 2024 in West Hartford, Connecticut. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 29, 1958, the eldest of nine siblings to the late Jose Gilberto Baez and Irma Baez Perez.
Nilsa was a beautiful soul and a woman of deep Christian faith. She enjoyed going to church, baking, singing, reading, taking walks and spending time with family. She loved Sunday dinners together with her sons and was known for her delicious pound cakes, cheese cakes and other desserts. She also enjoyed her small collection of plants. She worked for the city of Waterbury for almost ten years where she welcomed and assisted families in the public school system. She was gentle and kind to everyone she met and her radiant smile would light up a room. She will always be loved and remembered by many.
To cherish her memory are her children, Jonathan (Celina) Torres of Southington, and Joshua (Raquel) Torres of Waterbury and four grandchildren, Gabriel, Nylah, Mateo and Malia. She is also survived by her siblings Magdalena, Teresa, Sonya, Marisol, Jose, Martha, Margaret, and Jaime. In addition, she leaves several nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends.
A Christian service will be held on Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Iglesia de Dios MCM church on 88 Cooke Street, Waterbury, CT. Colonial Funerals 270 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT are handling the arrangements and James R. Sanders, Funeral Director. Interment will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery Waterbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
