ORA LEE BROWN
1931 -2023
Our dear Mother Ora Lee Brown was called home to be with the lord, she peacefully transitioned to her mansion on high the morning of October 12,2023. “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14- 2. If you knew Mother brown I’m sure you heard her recite this scripture.
Mother Ora Lee brown was born March 30,1931 in Laurinburg NC to the proud parents Viola and Willie McCollum. She attended school at Peddlers Creek Elementary in John’s Station and graduated from Laurinburg Institute. Ora Lee then decided to relocate to New Haven, CT where she married. To this Union she gave birth to three children, Debra McCollum, Samuel Mack Chase and Abdullah Ben Musaud. Ora Lee Worked many years as a domestic engineer until she retired at the age of 75.
Ora Lee was the true definition of strength. She never complained she just prayed and trusted in the Lord. She loved to cook and bake “ORA LEE’S FAMOUS CAKES”. Everyone looked forward to Sunday dinners at Ora Lee’s house. She loved spending time with her family and she always loved to laugh. She also loved to sing and play the tambourine. More recently Ora Lee spent her time teaching the word of the lord and playing with her great granddaughter Olivia.
Ora Lee was a member at Triumph The Church And Kingdom Of God In Christ where she gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of the usher board as well as the church choir. She was also actively involved in coordinating events and when there was dinners to be made you can always count on mother Ora Lee for that southern hospitality. After the closing of the Triump church she joined the Freedom Temple Holiness church under the leadership of overseer Dorothy Mewborn and Co-pastor Jette Hannah where she was also a very active member. Mother Ora Lee was head usher on the usher board, a member of the choir, faithful attendee of Sunday school, prayer meetings and bible study. She was a dedicated member always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She had great love for the lord, for the lord was her strength. It wasn’t long before Mother Ora Lee was recognized for her outstanding dedication and service when she was awarded the Cristian Commission award in April of 2005.
Ora Lee leaves behind to cherish her fond memories, siblings Maggie Armstrong (Harry Armstrong), Shirley Pipkin (Wendell Pipkin), Arenza McCollum, and (predeceased) Allen McCollum, Elizabeth Fulmore, Katie Bell Thomas, Emma Neal Scott, Juanita Marshall, James Willie McCollum and Eva Mae Harrison.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Debra McCollum of West Haven CT, sons Samuel Chase and Abdullah Ben Musaud of New Haven CT. Her grandchildren Kisha Woods of New Haven CT, Charlise Gomez, Leonard Gomez and Isabella Musaud of West Haven CT. Her great grandchildren Jayvias Patterson, Kiara Moore of New Haven CT and Olivia Gomez of West Haven CT, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Ora’s life will be held on October 24, 2023 at 11am at Greater Mount Carmel Pentecostal Church 399 Goodrich Street, Hamden. Viewing in Church from 10am-11am. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at Collonialfunerals.com.
