April 3, 1933 – August 30, 2020

Phyllis Mae Tolson, 87, entered eternal rest surrounded by her family on August 30, 2020. She was born April 3, 1933 in New Haven, CT to the late Charles and Evelyn Kelley Tolson. She spent her last days surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis graduated in the New Haven School system. She graduated from Hillhouse High School. After graduating, she started her career with Yale New Haven Hospital where she worked for over 40 years as a Dietary Aide. She retired in 1997. Phyllis was an amazing and wise mother who was a very strong and caring individual who loved being surrounded by family. She enjoyed spending her days with her grandkids, including the great-grands, watching her favorite shows Jeopardy, Price is Right and Family Feud, and drinking coffee. She will always be remembered as Phyllis who will hit you with a BAM if you ever think you’re hot stuff. Phyllis received Christ as her personal savior in August 2020. She was a faithful member at United Nations Church International under the leadership of Bishop Orrin Pullings and Dr. Medina Pullings located in Richmond, VA where she attended with her daughter, Sharon Dortche. She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 daughters, Sharon Dortche of Richmond, VA and Deborah Tolson-Forlow of Hamden, CT; one sister, Evelyn Tolson; 5 grandchildren Troy Tolson, Tanya Tolson, Brandon Tolson, Andrew Dortche, and Jamar Dortche; 6 great-grandchildren Breanna Muriel, Jeremiah Evans, Teshan Stewart, Raequoun Johnson, Jaequoun Johnson and Zaneya Tolson; 3 great-great-grandchildren Marcus Jacobs, Kingsley Jacobs, Jahsai Moore ; and a host of Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by 6 brothers Curtis Tolson (Fleta), Russell Tolson (Odell), Clayton Tolson(Sally), Lloyd Tolson, Rodney Tolson and Eugene Tolson; and 2 sisters, Catherine Hayes and Sandra Tolson.

Phyllis was loved by many and she will be greatly missed…

A celebration of Phyllis’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 in Colonial, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden at 11am. Viewing from 10-11am. Interment will be at Hamden Plains Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
