Richard Washington

Richard Washington transitioned unexpectedly on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Yale New Haven Hospital at the age of 63. He was born on August 6, 1961, in New Haven, CT to the late Mary T. Washington and James Oliver Ross Jr.

After being a student in the New Haven Public School system, he enlisted in the Army as an Equipment Records and Supply Specialist. While enlisted he was stationed in California and Hawaii. Following his military service, he met and married the love of his life, Gladys Washington. He was employed as a commercial truck driver for more than 40 years. His infectious personality attracted everyone he met. His children, grandchildren, 3 grand pups, and new pup baby Faith were his world. He was the life of the party and enjoyed listening to music and dancing.

Ricky is survived and deeply missed by his wife of 39 years, Gladys Washington of New Haven, CT. His life and memory are forever cherished by his children: Lakeshia (Dante) Gray of New Haven, CT, Theresa (Matt) Seawright of Trumbull, CT, Richard Washington Jr. of New Haven, CT, and Darnell (Nicole) Washington of Derby, CT. His memory lives on with his 5 God children and 17 grandchildren, whom he loved beyond measure. Fond memories will live on through his siblings Mary Elizabeth Generette, Charles (Betty) Bolden, James Nance, Joyce Ross-Dupree, Sherman Ross, Johnny (Suzanne) Stroud; Greg Stroud, Cherisa Lloyd Streater, Tina Streater, Jeffrey (Earline) Wilkins, Scott Young, Angelo Turner, Anthony Rorie, and sisters in love, Loretta Bolden and Lottie Bolden. We’d be remiss to forget his very close friends Royden and Carl, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, and loved ones.

He is predeceased by his parents, Mary Washington & James Ross Jr.; Grandparents, Raymond Gambrell, Irene Gambrell, Annie R. Gambrell, James Ross Sr., & Rosa Belle Heighter Ross; Brothers Larry Bolden, Michael Washington, and Tony Stroud; Sister Brenda Ross-Copper; his Godmother Margorie Stroud; his son Jovan Washington; Grandson Osiris Washington; 4 Aunts, and 5 Uncles.
