Rita Annette Key was born on the 18th day of April, 1956, in Charlottesville, Virginia, and is the second eldest daughter of Minnie and Henry Key. She attended Public School 6 in Bronx, New York, Jr. High School 44 in Bronx, New York, and graduated from Lane High School in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Although Rita lived in Virginia and New York, the last state she resided in was Connecticut. She worked as a Senior Teller for a bank, a Sales Clerk for a clothing store, and a Home Health Aide, and was revered by her employers, family and friends alike.
Rita was a strong, independent Black women who had a Silver tongue that could charm you like no other. She also a had a sharp tongue that could cut you like a knife. Rita is survived by her son Omar key, her mother, one brother John Key, her aunt Mollie Brown, uncle Thornton Brown (uncle Bugg), cousins Curtis, Mary Ann Brown Green and Jermaine, and Eboni, Tory, nephews Ivan, Larry, Shareef, Philip Coleman, Jr. (PJ), Dayquan, Terrod, niece Tenielle, Aunt Vivian Harris, cousins Hoover Scott, Sandy Brown, Kevin Brown, Derrick Brown, Ebony Brown, Jerome Harris and his five children Jerome Jr., Shamika, Tamika #1, Tamika #2, and Ashley, grand niece Jordan, grand nephews Evander, Shareef Jr. (Man Man), Lennox (Lennythepooh), and a host of friends in New York, Virginia and Connecticut.
A Celebration of Rita’s life will be held on Tuesday December 14, 2021 at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue at 2:30pm. Viewing in Colonial from 1-2:30pm. You may express online condolences at www.colonialfunerals.com
