Robert E. Taylor, also known as “Gator”, age 72, unexpectedly passed away on December 22, 2020. He was born on February 24, 1948 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, son of Rev. John & Mary Taylor Jr.  He is the loving husband of Ossie Taylor for over 50 years. He leaves behind to cherish his memory is daughter Tammy (Johnny) Patterson of Highpoint, North Carolina. He is predeceased by his two sons Ryan Keith & Robert “Bobby” Taylor. He is also survived by four sisters Debra Spence of Parksville MD, Carrie Taylor of Joppa MD, Jonola (Gertie) Roundtree of Camden, North Carolina and Pam Griffin of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and five brothers Gwayland (Vanessa) McCleney of Windfall, North Carolina, Henry (Shirley) Chapman  of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Johnnie (Celeste ) Taylor of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Bryan (Levada) Taylor of Highpoint, North Carolina, and Kenneth Taylor of Hopkins, South Carolina, one aunt, Bernice Cowell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Robert Taylor loved what he loved.  It was in his early rearing years at Samuel Chapel Baptist Church where his love for gospel singing took root and bloomed.  Later on, he joined the Marveneers of Waterbury and sang for many years.  He coined the phrase “What’s up dick?” Anyone who knew him would respond with laughter. He was an advocate sports fan, and his favorite team was the Pittsburgh Steelers, but most of all he loved spending time at home with his family.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday December 30, 2020 at Refuge Church of Christ, Waterbury. Walk-through only viewing in Church from 10-11am, masked are REQUIRED!  Private funeral, close family only!  Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury.
