Robert Lee Young

Robert Lee Young, devoted Jehovah Witness, father, brother, and friend passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023, at the age of 83.

Robert was also known as Robert Lee and Rob, was born August 8th, 1940, to Maggie Young Lawson in Summerton SC. Rob was the eldest of six and forfeited his education in his early years so that he could help support and provide for his siblings. He did this by working on a farm driving tractor. At 18 years old rob moved to New York and resided in Brooklyn for some time when he started working for Marina sanitation in Jersey City NJ. There he obtained his CDL license and became a dump truck driver and continued working with the company for 43 years.

It was about 1974 when rob came into the truth and was baptized as one of Jehovah witnesses. It was 1977 when rob married Eartha Mae Haynes. Together they raised four children, Sylvia, Cynthia, Priscilla and Robert (Bobby), in the Bronx NY Many of Rob’s family and friends from the congregation were recipients not only of his kindness and love but also of his generosity. He began his walk of faith to Jehovah over 48 years ago. Although Rob suffered through having Alzheimer’s, his faith and love for Jehovah never wavered. Rob was also very family oriented and loved spending his time visiting family in Brooklyn and always taken his grandkids outside to the park. Rob and Eartha have 8 grandkids and 16 great grands who referred to him as “Dada”.

Rob was predeceased by his mom Maggie Lawson Young, his brother John Henry Young and his sister Victoria Young Junious. He is survived by his wife Eartha young, two brothers Perry Young (Gardenia) and Matthew young, and his sister Sadie Williams, grandkids; Amanda, Jalieka (Shameek), Shundaza, Andrew, Asha, Ashley, Aakil and Kailey, along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 11am at Colonial Funeral Home, 86 Circular Ave, Hamden, CT 06514. Viewing will be from 10-11am at Colonial. Burial will take place Saturday December 30, 2023 at St Philips cemetery, Condolences may be expressed at www.colonialfunerals.com.
