Ruth Patricia Belton, 86, of New Haven passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020. Born March 17, 1933 in New York, NY to John and Pauline Campbell, Ruth was raised with her 6 brothers and 1 sister in Mamaroneck, NY. She was a graduate of Mamaroneck High School class of 1951. Ruth was married twice and had eight children.
Throughout her adult life, Ruth worked as a telephone operator for Southern New England Telephone Company, a housekeeper for Milford Hospital, and a claims processor for Blue Cross Blue Shield of CT. In the early 1980s, she also worked as a residential houseparent at Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia, SC. She formally retired from full time employment in 1998.
Ruth is predeceased by her brothers William, Gilbert, Charles, Edward and Donald Campbell and her son Wayne Shanks. She is survived by her oldest brother John Campbell, her sister Nancy Jones, her remaining children: Melanie Norton, Avis Williams, Andrea Clark, Alicia Pearson, Janet Belton, Horace (Kevin) Belton and Kenneth Belton Sr., 11 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchildren and a host of extended family.
A Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Thursday February 6, 2020 at Colonial, 86 Circular Avenue at 4pm, Viewing at Colonial from 3-4pm. Burial will be held Friday at Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Avenue, Valhalla, NY, at 11am. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
