Sonya Nichelle Armfield

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Ms. Sonya Nichelle Armfield, age 56, of NW Washington, DC. Sonya passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. Sonya was born on March 7, 1969, in Norwalk, CT to the late Mr. Levoyd Cohen and Mrs. Gloria Armfield Donaldson. Her late grandparents, Mr. Jasper and Mrs. Christine Armfield, were a great influence in her life at an early age in Greenville, NC, and her Aunt Bessie Cohen of Bridgeport, CT. Sonya always put family first and loved her Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She really knew how to light a room. Sonya always talked to her nieces and nephews about the importance of education. She was constantly sending care packages to her mom, nieces, and nephews, who could forget those endless Walmart, Door Dash, and Uber Eats deliveries to Elliot Drive! She worked extremely hard and paid her way through Law School and was constantly seeking knowledge and education in life.

Sonya is survived by her loving mother and stepfather, Eugene and Gloria Armfield Donaldson, Hamden, CT, brother, Michael Armfield, Hamden, CT, sisters, Kimberly Armfield, Upper Marlboro, MD, Latoya Donaldson, Hamden, CT, Patrick & Connita Donaldson, Compton, CA and her beloved Cohen Family. A family of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. Of course, we can’t forget her loving pet, ‘Pinky’.

Sonya was a very active member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., after pledging Spring 1993 and enjoyed and loved her AKA Sorors! Sonya attended Cooperative High Magnet School, Hamden, Connecticut, 1989, Southern Connecticut State University, Bachelor of Science Degree, Political Science, Hamden, Connecticut, 1993, and Howard University School of Law, Washington, DC, Juris Doctorate Law Degree, 1999.
