Loving dad, husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

Stacy Edward “Nutz” Metz, 52, of Waterbury, CT, passed away on November 22, 2020 at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was the husband, Madeline (Mendoza) Metz. Stacy was born in Waterbury, CT, on February 1, 1968 to Thelma Wyrick Metz Griffin and the late Theodore Edward Griffin. He graduated from Wilby High School in 1986.  He went into the Navy and was in the Navy until 1991.  After leaving the Navy, he and Madeline married in 1992.  In 1998, he became a Paraprofessional for the City of Waterbury Board of Education.  He worked at Tinker School and most recently at State Street School.  In addition, he worked at Goodwill of Western and Northern Connecticut.

Stacy enjoyed playing basketball and hanging with his friends.  Stacy began playing basketball at a young age and continued throughout his life.  He often played at the North End Recreation Center as well as different tournaments.  Stacy planned and organized the Metz Annual 4 th of July cookout. He enjoyed traveling with his family during the summer.  They would rent a beach house in Outer Banks, North Carolina and everyone would have a great time. In addition, he was a mentor to many students and kids in the community.  Stacy was a life-long member of Grace Baptist Church.

Stacy is survived by his loving wife, Madeline Metz; his loving children, Ricky Albelo, Hiram Maldonado, Talique Metz, Noah Metz, Jadakiss Metz, Mariah Griffin-Metz and Jeremiah Griffin-Metz; his siblings, Charles Metz, Cheryle Metz, Bryan Metz, Tracy Griffin-Murray and Jason Metz; his aunts, Jeanette W. Thomas, Lois W. Lock, and Carol W. Diggs and 11 nieces and nephews.  He also leaves a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Theodore E. Griffin; his brother, Derek R. Metz; his son, Daison Metz and his aunts, Alice W. Stenson, Evelyn Wyrick and Kerry W. Holmes.

More than anything, Stacy loved his family and especially spending time with his children, nieces, nephews, and group texting with his brothers and sisters. He enjoyed spending time with his godsons, Juan and Josiah Parrilla.  He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him and had the opportunity to interact with him.

Colonial Funeral Home, 270 West Main Street, with James R. Sanders, Funeral Director, is handling arrangements with his family.  The funeral service will be held on Monday November 30, 2020 and will be open to the public from 12:00-2:00 pm at Grace Baptist Church, 65 Kingsbury Street, Waterbury, CT.  Memorial Service at 2pm with family and close friends.
