It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Christine Perry, age 84, of New Haven, Connecticut. Sylvia peacefully transitioned on July 20, 2025, at 3:01PM at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by family and friends in prayer.
Born on October 22, 1940, to the late Grover Bannister and Kathleen Spurlock, Sylvia was the eldest of four siblings: Priscilla Bannister of Hyde Park, MA, Gloria McGhee of Compton, CA, Theodore Spurlock of Long Beach, CA. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert Perry. Sylvia is survived by her two children: Germano Kimbro of New Haven, CT and Veronica Kimbro of Brookline, MA She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Imani Jones (Darrion), Aaron, Andrew, Maya, and Ayanna, and five great-grandchildren: Corinthia, Darren, Jada, Sarai, and Noah. Sylvia will also be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Sylvia was born and educated in New Haven, a graduate of Hill House. Sylvia attended South Central Community College. Sylvia became office manager for NARCO , a drug treatment program in the 60’s and went to on retire at Connecticut State Department of Social Services and Yale University. Sylvia continued to support her community at New Haven Head Start program where she served with compassion and dedication.
A faithful servant of Jehovah, Sylvia was a devoted wife and mother, a loving grandmother and great-grandmother, a generous relative, and a gracious, hospitable friend. Known for her impeccable style and remarkable gift for home décor, Sylvia loved Art and Flowers. Sylvia brought beauty and warmth into every space she entered.
Her presence will be missed beyond measure, but her spirit lives on in all of us who knew and loved her.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 First Service: 11:00AM – 12:00PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 885 Wintergreen Avenue, Hamden, CT 06514. Extended Service will be from 12:30PM – 3:00PM at Colonial Funerals 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden, CT 06514. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
