Thomas Joseph Lane

Thomas Joseph Lane passed away peacefully on October 19, 2022 at Saint Raphaels Hospital, New Haven CT. He was born on June 4, 1928, to the late Reverend Joseph and Lavinia Lane in Finkbine, Mississippi. He was educated in the Baltimore, Maryland Public Schools and later moved to New Haven, CT. He met and married Adeline Moore in 1962. He attended the House of Jacob Church where is father Pastored many years ago, Tom knew the Bible very well.

He was better known to everyone as Poor Tom. He was a well known handy man and worked at several area restaurants. His last employment was with the New Haven Housing Authority. He loved farming, gardening, and cooking big meals. He made the best candied yams ever. His favorite thing was to eat a half gallon of ice cream mixed with Hershey bars and Reese’s peanut cups, and would share if one of us would scratch his head! He loved his family dearly, had a beautiful smile and lived a long-blessed full life. He spent his last years as a resident at The Arden House, in Hamden CT. He will be truly missed.

He leaves to mourn his son Thomas Lane of Miami, Florida, daughter Ava Johnson of Stafford, Virginia, Brother Milton Langley of Baltimore, Maryland, Nephews, Wesley, Douglas, Darryl Gill, and Niece Melody, 24 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, friends, and well-wishers.

He is predeceased by his wife, Adeline Lane, Children, Marlene Byrd, Janice Riles, Rosalie Michael, Marvin Michael. Sisters, Elizabeth Gill, Ruth Kelly, Nan White, Queenie Leach; brothers, Robert Lane Sr., George, Albert, and Roosevelt Langley. Nieces, Shelly and Heather.

A celebration of Thomas’s life will be held on Saturday October 29, 2022 at 9am. Viewing at Colonial from 8-9am, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden. Interment to follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
