Tobbie Mcauley

Tobbie McAuley was born on August 24, 1949 in New Haven, CT to Jacqueline Robinson McAuley and Amos McAuley of Mt. Gilead, NC. He passed in New Haven on May 15, 2024.  Tobbie graduated from Hillhouse High School.

He was employed by the New Haven Parks and Recreation Department and Fusco Construction Company.

Tobbie was predeceased by son Travis Brown McAuley, and brothers Frank McAuley, Benson McAuley, and Robert McAuley.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory daughter LeJeune Brown McAuley (Dacula, Georgia), son Amos Brown McAuley (Greensboro, NC), granddaughter Jasmine Brown, grandsons Stanley Williams Jr. and Preston Williams, brothers Ralph McAuley (Marian) of Chino, CA, and Thomas McAuley of Bridgeport, CT, special nephew Michael Green and niece Pamela Dawkins Green of West Haven, CT and a host of family and friends.

Tobbie was a visual artist specializing in oil paints and a commercial painter.  He was also knowledgeable of masonry.  Tobbie enjoyed listening to music, especially Frankie Beverly and MAZE, and sharing his culinary skills frying fish at 283 Munson Street amongst family and friends.

Tobbie was an entrepreneur who painted many complete exteriors and interiors of homes in the greater New Haven area.

The beauty Tobbie created will remain.  He was so gifted as an artist, instructors found him difficult to teach.  In other words, he was a natural.  Tobbie knew how to make oil paint do what few could.   His creative influence was so strong it impacted many visitors who came to the McAuley home and inspired young relative to “keep it going!”

The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, thoughts, kindness, and love.

A celebration of Tobbie’s life will be held on Saturday June 8, 2024 at 11am at Colonial Funerals 86 Circular Avenue Hamden CT. Viewing at Colonial from 10-11am. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
