Tony Anthony Stroud, age 61, of Hamden, Connecticut, passed away on March 7, 2025 peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on July 26, 1963, to the late Margie Ruth Streater-Stroud and Johnny Thomas Stroud, Sr. in Mooresville, North Carolina (Iredell County).
Tony moved to New Haven, CT with his mother and siblings in 1969. He became a student along with his siblings in the New Haven Public School Systems.
He attended Conte middle School and Richard C. Lee High School where he graduated in 1982. Tony was captain of his basketball team and voted most popular at School. Basketball was Tony’s favorite sport, the Boston Celtics was his number one team. He was a beast on the court during his younger days and everyone knew it. He was given the name: SHOTGUN because almost every shot he made on the court went straight in the hoop!
Tony was loved by everyone that he came into contact with. He was always the life and cook at every family gathering. Whether it was a dinner or cookout; he always made his way to the grill or the stove. Tony loved his family and everyone that he considered family immensely. He is indeed a lady’s man but also a perfect gentleman. He would do anything for anyone, no questions asked. He may not have seen his children often but he made sure everyone knew how much he loved them up until his final day. He would let you know every second of the day how much you were loved; by three simple words every time he saw you, “I love you” before anything else. Tony’s spirit will forever live through everyone that loved him!
Tony was very strong but faced obstacles and challenges that often kept him from reaching his full potential. But with the challenges that he often faced, his family always had his back! A lot of TOUGH LOVE, but at the end of the day it was all because of Love. Our Mother raised us to always stick together, no matter what, and that will forever be our testament.
Tony leaves to cherish his fondest memories, five children: Ebony-Bowden-Moore (Terrance), Shagunna R. Muse, Tatiana Stroud, Sheana Stroud, and Zalon T. Steele. Five grandchildren, five siblings’, Johnny T. Stroud (Suzan), Teethiena M. Stroud, Gregory C. Stroud, Richard Washington (Gladys), and Cherisa Streater-Lloyd, A very special first cousin, Randy Streater. His maternal aunt, Sara L. Streater. A host of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his sister, Darlene Stroud and maternal aunt Jeanie M. Streater-Connor, maternal Uncle William H. Streater, grandparents Haywood andEva Mae Streater.
