She worked for years as a professional seamstress, managing the fabric department at Woolworths in downtown New Haven, CT. before moving on to Joann’s Fabrics in Hamden, CT where she taught seamstress classes. Valencia was a devout Christian who loved to sing. One of her fondest memories was recording a gospel album with her family, the St. Marks Choir. Valencia loved to cook, and bake. Although not classically trained in the traditional sense of the skill, Valencia was the Chef, and Baker of the family. A family gathering would be sparsley attended if word got out that Valencia wasnt cooking. Her rolls are legendary. She leaves behind a mother, Dorothy W Gomez. Two brothers James Gomez, and Harrold Gomez. Two children Lloyd White, and Victor White. She was an aunt, and great aunt to many nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her farher John Brown, and her brother Raphael P. Smith.
A Celebration of Valencia’s life will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Colonial Funerals, 86 Circular Avenue, Hamden at 11am. Viewing in Colonial from 10-11am. Burial will follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com .
