Vincent Lightbourne, affectionately known as “Butch,” beloved son of Harry Lightbourne Jr. and Sylvia Lightbourne, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Butch was born in Harlem, New York on October 7, 1958. He was educated in the New York public school system and worked in various warehouse roles. In 2011, he became certified as a Recovery Support Specialist, supporting people navigating mental health and substance use conditions.
Whether you knew him as “Uptown Vinny,” “New York Butch,” or “Bizzy,” his sensitive yet dominant, loving personality left an imprint on the lives of many. He had a heart of gold and was always passionate about helping others. His altruistic values led him to volunteer and later became employed by the Community Soup Kitchen for a brief period. Butch held strong to his faith throughout his life, becoming a member of Mt. Calvary Deliverance Tabernacle Church. Butch loved to play basketball and watch all sports. He represented New York to the fullest as an avid fan of the New York Giants, Jets, Knicks, and Rangers teams. He loved to read the New York post or New York Daily News with his morning tea and he wouldn’t dare be caught without wearing his Adidas sneakers. He loved listening to music and singing along while humming, snapping or tapping his foot to the beat. He also loved watching movies.
One meeting with Butch and he would welcome you in as family. He had an immense love for his friends and family near and far, but most of all for the children, and would go to great lengths to make sure everyone was okay.
Butch is preceded in death by his parents Harry Lightbourne Jr. and Sylvia Lightbourne, his brother Kenneth Lightbourne, sister Michele Lightbourne, brother Kevin Lightbourne and daughter Brittany Jones. Butch leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Lamont “Monty” Dudley (Sonja), Robert “Manny” Carter (Kiva), Michael “Vinny” Dudley (Monique), Lamar Jones Sr. (Tiffanie), Raina Barber, Alexandra Dudley, Ariel Barber, and Audreay Green, his brother Kenneth Wilkerson, sisters Kenyetta and Afre Lightbourne, 26 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and friends. Butch’s love and selfless spirit will truly be missed but he will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
A celebration of Butch’s life will be held on Saturday September 27, 2025 at Trinity Temple Church of God, 285 Dixwell Ave, New Haven, CT 06511. Viewing will begin at 3pm with service to start promptly at 4pm. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com.
