Willie D. Greene

On February 2 nd , 2022, Willie Dwight Greene passed and completed the last leg of his earthly journey. Willie was born on February 24, 1952, in Williamston, South Carolina to the late Rev. Jacob Charles Greene and Lilian Margaret Greene. He was a proud graduate of Hillhouse High school and, back in the day, was known as a skilled basketball player, sharp dresser, and strong singer (first tenor). Willie sought the betterment of his community by serving as alderman in the Newhallville community and by working in the fields of education and community development.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two of his siblings, Rickey Timothy Greene, and Peal Hughes (affectionately known as “sister”), and one nephew, Derwin Hughes. Willie is survived by his children Sharra Greene, Stacey Bailey-Bynum, and Jason Bailey; brothers, Dr. Michael Greene (Laura M. Farnum, MD) of Dallas, Texas; Rev. Jimmy Greene (Rev. Marie Greene) of New Haven; Charles Green (Joyce) and Andrew Green of Raleigh, North Carolina; Milton Green of Oxen Hill, MD; sister, Margaret Greene-Bromell (Rockie); grandchild, Paige Chestnut; nieces, Heather Green, Andrina Green, and Kandyce O’Meally-Walters,and Patrice Michelle Greene; and nephews Rickey Wright and Christopher Jacob Greene.

Willie also leaves to mourn his absence a host of cousins, including two of which he was especially close to: Charlotte Knight Marshall of Chicago and Sonya Johnson Beyers of New Haven, CT.

A Celebration of Willie’s life will be held on Friday, February 11, 2022 at 11am., at New Antioch Church of God, 65 Burband Drive, Branford. Viewing in Church from 10-11am. Interment to follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park. Condolences may be expressed at Colonialfunerals.com.
