Willie D. Samuel (95) departed this life peacefully on May 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Pop, as he was so lovingly known, was born May 7, 1929, in Lugoff, South Carolina, son of the late James and Maggie Samuel Lawhorn. He was schooled in Lugoff, and migrated as a young man to New Haven, CT. Pop retired after many years from CJ Fucci Construction Inc., as a heavy machinery operator. He was a hard worker, loved music (James Brown), watching baseball, wrestling and westerns. Pop helped to raise two of the grandchildren (Danny/Dylan) that resided in the home. Pop was very active and loved working around the house. Pop will be missed, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all that knew him.
Pop leaves to cherish his memories, son’s Eric (Yvonne) McGregor, David McGregor, Livernard Bailey; daughter’s Jeanell Lee-Miller, Mena McGregor, Monica (Ron) Johnson, and Shanell (Dayquann) Boyd. He also leaves 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Also, survived by his loving sister Eva Hill of Buffalo, NY and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pop was predeceased by his parents, also his brother’s Andrew Lawhorn, Melvin Lawhorn, James Lawhorn and David Lawhorn; sister’s Josie Lawhorn and Ann Watkins; daughter Kathy McGregor, special daughter-in-law Lisa McGregor, grandson Larry Wiggins and granddaughter Latoya McGregor.
