He was born on August 6, 1939, in Hemingway, South Carolina, the son of the late Jethro and Margaret (Smith) Cokely. Loving husband to Annette (Bailey) Cokely for over 54 years. Beloved father of Kelvin “Omar” Cokely of New Haven, and Silver “Ann” Davis of Hemingway, SC. Cherished grandfather of Kelvin “Emmanuel” Cokely of Hamden, Eric Davis of Hemingway, SC., Whitney Davis of Hemingway, SC. Woodrow worked for Entoleter in Hamden for 27 years as a machine operator/ winder, and for Greater New Haven transit as a driver in the early 60’s in New Haven. He was a loving friend to many, with a warm heart, and a gentle soul. A man of pride, dignity and respect. A king personality from the way he’d carry himself. He had a great personality, he stood out from the crowd, his originality, and stability he gave to his family, he was a provider and generous.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

A celebration of Woodrow’s life will be held on Friday February 7, 2020 at Colonial, 86 Circular Avenue at 11am, viewing at Colonial from 10-11am. Condolences may be expressed at colonialfunerals.com
